After reading the chapter, answer the following questions:

1. What prompted you to enter leadership?

2. What do most successful coaches in the NFL have in common?

3. How do the leaders in your profession or area of service support the Law of Reproduction or disprove it?

4. Who in your profession or area of service is actively raising up other leaders? How are they doing this?

Rate your own leadership by placing the number 1, 2, or 3 next to each of the following statements: 1=Never 2=Sometimes 3=Always

1. I am a developer of people.

2. I find great joy in seeing others around me rise above my own capabilities.

3. I mentor at least two individuals.

4. The people I am mentoring show signs of growth both personally and professionally.

5. Mentoring and investing in other people's lives is important to me.

6. I see people for who they are more than what they can do for me.

19. My motivation in mentoring is to make others better, not make me look better.

20. I am on the lookout for people with whom I share a natural connection, who are responsive to my leadership, and who I can invest in.

Total

50-60-This is an area of strength. Continue growing as a leader but also spend time helping others to develop in this area.

40-49-This area may not be hurting you as a leader, but it isn't helping you much either. To strengthen your leadership, develop yourself in this area.

20-39-This is an area of weakness in your leadership. Until you grow in this area, your leadership effectiveness will be negatively impacted.

Answer the following questions and discuss your answers when you meet with your mentoring group.

3. Do you agree with the author that we reproduce what we are? Explain.

4. How have you benefited from the advice or instructions of other leaders?

5. Is mentoring a part of your life? Why or why not?

6. What are you doing to become a better leader?

7. How close or far away from mentoring someone else are you? Why?

8. What will you do to develop other leaders?
