2. Watch "The Law of the Inner Circle" portion of "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" video

After reading the chapter, answer the following questions:

1. Why did the author's church plateau at 1,000 members?

2. What steps did the author take grow to his organization?

3. Think of someone in your profession or area of service whom you consider successful. How has this person followed The Law of the Inner Circle?

4. How will your potential be affected if you don't form a strong Inner Circle?

Rate your own leadership by placing the number 1, 2, or 3 next to each of the following statements: 1=Never 2=Sometimes 3=Always

1. I can identify my inner circle.

2. My inner circle exists primarily to make my life more productive.

3. I make a diligent and consistent effort to invest as much as I can into my inner circle.

4. My inner circle is made up of people who are at all different levels of leadership.

5. I intentionally seek ways to assist my inner circle of friends, colleagues and associates to grow personally and maximize their potential.

6. My inner circle consists of people within and outside of my organization.

7. I allow at least one member of my inner circle to ask my personal and hard questions about my direction, motives, and relationships.

8. My inner circle functions well as a cohesive and effective team.

9. Various people in my inner circle come up with ideas that we implement.

10. I am part of at least one other person's inner circle of leaders, colleagues or advisors.

11. The people in my inner circle are intelligent, productive and self-starters.

12. I give my time freely to my inner circle and do not resent the time commitment involved.

18. I encourage the people in my inner circle to pursue individual projects that will benefit them.

19. My inner circle is not perceived as an elite club of insiders from other leaders in the organization.

20. My inner circle exists to serve the members of it.

50-60-This is an area of strength. Continue growing as a leader but also spend time helping others to develop in this area.

40-49-This area may not be hurting you as a leader, but it isn't helping you much either. To strengthen your leadership, develop yourself in this area.

20-39-This is an area of weakness in your leadership. Until you grow in this area, your leadership effectiveness will be negatively impacted.

Answer the following questions and discuss your answers when you meet with your mentoring group.

1. What are the three groups of people in an organization when it comes to their responses to leadership and its impact?

2. Do you agree with the author's list of qualities to look for when creating an inner circle? What other qualities would you add?

3. In the past, how have you selected people for your inner circle?

4. What are the common characteristics found in the people you surround yourself with?

5. Have the people you've chosen to spend time with enhanced your life or made it more difficult? If they've done more harm than good, how must you change your selection process?

6. How do you enhance the lives of the people you spend time with? Do you challenge them and help them grow? Explain.

7. Up to now, how conscious have you been of surrounding yourself with strong leaders and people who will contribute to your life's journey? How will you use The Law of the Inner Circle to actively seek out additional members for your inner circle or refine your current inner circle?
